That Was Easy

Yes, we over-prepared for the home visit.  She hung out in the living room, chatting with us about other families who had adopted who live on our street, work with us, etc.  She asked the kids a few questions, but nothing much.  Then she asked the kids to show her their rooms, which they were eager to do.  She spent a few minutes in each, asking the kids a few questions about things in their rooms.  Then she left.  She didn’t even ask to see our fire extinguisher.  Or our new CO2 alarm.  Or our cabinet latches, medicine cabinet, or the secret place we now keep the corkscrew.  I’m starting to think this isn’t going to be as difficult as we had at first suspected.  So, the next step is for Andrew and I to go separately to meet with her and be “interviewed.”  We both wrote responses to 55 questions about our lives as children, our lives now, and our hopes for our kids, which she will use to develop some discussion items.  Here’s an excerpt from Andrew’s:

What do you see yourself offering a child? Gum.

I think she may want to delve a little deeper into that one.  Anyway, Andrew is going next week, and I’m going the week after that.  Not a true “prisoner’s dilemma,” since they don’t happen at the same time, so I’m sure we’ll be fine.  Unless she wants something deeper than “gum.”

Also, a shout out to Marcy, who was the first of our references to turn in her letter of recommendation!
