Today we took the kids out of school (good), took them to be tortured (bad), then took them out for ice cream (good again).  We went to the travel clinic to get our shots in preparation for our trip to Ethiopia.  We all got various combinations of polio, Hepatitis (A&B), meningitis, yellow fever and tetanus.  All together, we got 14 shots.  E only had to get two, while Andrew had to get 5.  We also got prescriptions for malaria and typhoid pills that we will take before we go.  Total cost – $1200.  (That’s the biggest “ouch.”)

S did pretty well – he was nervous, but stayed strong until after the first shot, then was ready to bail on his plan to be brave. E never even tried to be brave, was just hysterical.  For both of them, pretty true to their personalities!

There are also rumors (although I can’t figure out where) that the Ethiopian government is not immediately implementing the new “travel twice” rules.  We’ll have to wait and see, but I would love it if it takes them a year or so to figure out how to manage that process.  In the meantime, families are still passing court without being required to be there, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.  I am slowing warming to the idea of two trips, but think I may need to be heavily medicated between them.
